Zanu PF candidate for the Epworth Ward 6 by-election, Cde Civilised Bushe, has expressed unwavering confidence in securing victory in the upcoming poll slated for 2 August, 2025.

Speaking exclusively to this publication, Bushe declared that Zanu PF remains the people’s party and that all indicators point to a resounding win for the ruling party.

The by-election was necessitated following the conviction and imprisonment of former councillor,Nobody Makoni, who was sentenced to 40 months in prison by the Harare Magistrates’ Court for criminal abuse of duty.

The 52-year-old’s removal from office created a vacancy, paving the way for fresh elections in the ward.

In an interview, Bushe exuded optimism, stating that the party’s grassroots mobilisation and developmental track record have solidified its support base in Epworth.

“Zanu PF is the people’s party, and the people of Ward 6 know that we are the only party with a clear vision for development. Our campaign has been well-received, and everything is pointing towards a massive victory. The opposition has no ground here—this is Zanu PF territory," Bushe said.

Bushe emphasised that the party’s leadership, under President Emmerson Mnangagwa, has prioritised service delivery, and his campaign is focused on addressing key issues such as water shortages, road rehabilitation, and youth empowerment.

“We are not just campaigning for votes; we are campaigning for progress. The people of Epworth want development, and Zanu PF is the only party that can deliver. We will win this election and make it good for our community,” he said.

Political analysts suggest that Zanu PF is likely to retain the seat, given its stronghold in urban peripheries and the divided state of the opposition in the area. However, opposition parties are expected to put up a fight, with the Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC)also fielding a candidate in the race.

As the campaign intensifies, residents say they are looking for a leader who will prioritise service delivery over personal gain—a sentiment echoed by Bushe, who vowed to uphold integrity in office.

“The people have been let down before, but this time, they will get a councillor who serves them, not himself. Zanu PF is ready to work, and on 2 August, the people will speak loudly with their votes,” Bushe said.

With less than a month to go, all eyes are on Epworth Ward 6 as the by-election shapes up to be another test of political strength in Zimbabwe’s evolving democratic landscape.
