Muchuwe wins Glen View primary elections

Former Zanu PF Harare Provincial Secretary for Science and Technology, Offard Muchuwe has won the ticket to represent Zanu PF party in the Glenview South Constituency by election pencilled for 7 September.

Muchuwe won by 343 votes in primary elections held this weekend in the constituency.

He defeated six other contestants with Misheck Chisvo trailing behind with 284 votes. All the losing candidates conceded defeat.

The Glenview South constituency fell vacant following the death of Vimbai Java, the daughter of MDC founding president, Morgan Tsvangirai.

Muchuwe will square it off with the MDC candidate, Vincent Tsvangirai who was imposed by MDC leader, Nelson Chamisa..

Speaking in an interview with the Harare Post today, Muchuwe stated that the imposition of Tsvangirai`s son is a welcome move to him.

“As a candidate, I am happy to contest with a product of imposition. Vincent was never elected and he is not a resident of Glenview South Constituency. The constituency has been under legislators who do not reside in this area. The fact that I stay in this constituency gives me an upper hand,” said Muchuwe who is confident of wrestling the seat from the MDC.

Muchuwe indicated that, just like her late sister Vimbai, Vincent would not do anything developmental.

Vincent is based in Australia and was imposed by the MDC party with no primary elections.

Analysts have indicated that the imposition of Vincent is a strategy by the MDC to pacify the Tsvangirai family which has expressed disquiet over the way Chamisa took over power following the death of Morgan Tsvangirai.
