Candidate threatened with expulsion for using a Vitz

The MDC Alliance candidate for Marondera Central, Caston Matewu, has been threatened with dismissal for not showing seriousness in his campaigns.

Matewu is being castigated for using a Toyota Vitz car as his official campaign vehicle. Among other charges levelled against Matewu is his failure to provide mineral water for the high table at rallies in his constituency.

Speaking at a campaign review meeting at Matewu’s residence in Marondera, Bornface Tagwirei delivered the message which he said was coming from the Party’s headquarters in Harare. He said it had been noted with concern that Matewu’s meetings had been poorly attended.

“People are shunning your campaign meeting because they now have an impression that you are too poor to fund your campaign. You fail to provide basic provisions such as tents and mineral water for VIPs,” lambasted Tagwirei.

Matewu responded that he was taking after the UK politicians who use even bicycles for their campaigns. However, he was told off by people who said the UK and Zimbabwean politics are a world apart.

Matewu will face Zanu PF businessman and educationist, Cleopas Kundiona in the forthcoming elections. The seat is currently under Zanu PF’s Lawrence Katsiru.
