President Mnangagwa officiates at HIT 2019 graduation

His Excellency, President Emmerson Mnangagwa has today capped 508 graduates at Harare Institute of Technology (HIT) who excelled in various entrepreneurial disciplines.

The President officiated at the graduation ceremony soon after he was conferred with an honorary Doctorate of Technology Degree Honaris Causa in recognition of his commitment to science and technology development.

Of the 508 students who graduated today, 199 were females while 309 were males. The graduates were drawn from schools of Business and Management Sciences, Engineering and Technology, Industrial Sciences and Technology and Information Science and Technology. 18 out of the 508 students graduated with first class degrees.

HIT is committed to nurture graduates responsive to industry demands and is currently partnering ZUPCO in a number of innovative projects such as ''tap and go.''

Last year HIT under Professor Quinton Kanhukamwe introduced a monitoring technology which covers the fuelling, monitoring of the buses wherever they are and a passenger payment system named tap-and-go.

HIT is also passionately committed to growing interdisciplinary and multidisciplinary expertise and creative thinking, together with practical application and problem solving directly relevant and responsive to various sectors of the country`s economy.

The institution also strives to uphold and deliver on its mandate which is to develop, incubate, commercialise and transfer technology that contributes to the industrialisation and modernisation of Zimbabwe.
