Zanu PF has stressed that the 18th National People’s Conference is not an elective congress as is being circulated on social media.

Speaking during a press briefing after the Politburo session, ZANU PF Secretary for Information and Publicity Cde Simon Khaya Moyo said, “I want to emphasise that there is a rumour on social media, reports circulating that we are going to Goromonzi for elections. I want to emphasise that the 18th National People’s Conference is not a congress I repeat, it’s not a congress it is therefore not elective, like any other congress.

“We never elect leadership at conferences, it is only done at congress. So as per our Constitution it is only the congress where elections take place. Therefore please take note, very seriously, of this misleading social media report that we are heading to Goromonzi for elections. There is no such thing,” he said.

Moyo went on to highlight that there is ground swell of various political formations on re-joining or joining Zanu PF and that this 18th National People’s Conference will be a defining one and must be used to further mobilise people towards economic productivity, guide Zanu PF’s course as it accelerates to its quest to grow the economy and improve the quality of life of the people.

Zanu PF detractors have been circulating lies on social media that Zanu PF would be going to its 18th National People’s Conference to elect a new party leader so as to cause mayhem and confusion in people, but they have failed to divide the party.
