Chamisa faces mass defections

By Political Reporter

The MDC Alliance leader Nelson Chamisa is in a fix following revelations that a lot of his supporters are contemplating to cross the great divide and join ZANU PF because of its policies that resonate with the masses.

An MDC Alliance insider yesterday confided in this publication that the defection of former MDC Alliance National Deputy Treasurer Lilian Timveous to ZANU PF was the beginning of a great exodus of MDC Alliance members to ZANU PF.

“We are going to see mass defections of MDC Alliance members to ZANU PF because of a number of reasons. The first reason is that Chamisa has dismally failed to propel the opposition ship to political success as anticipated by many and he has become more of a philosopher than a serious contender for the country’s presidency.

“Secondly, a lot of MDC Alliance members are beginning to appreciate ZANU PF policies as they have empowered a lot of the previously disadvantaged people. These are the reasons why people like Timveous and many others have decided to dump the MDC Alliance in favour of ZANU PF,” said the insider.

The insider added that the warm reception that Timveous and Blessing Chebundo received from the ZANU PF leadership has convinced other MDC Alliance members that ZANU PF is not a monster as wrongly perceived by the opposition.

“The warm reception that Timveous received from ZANU PF leadership has convinced others to seriously think of dumping the Alliance and join the ruling party. We discovered that ZANU PF is a welcoming party that does not discriminate on the basis of one’s previous political affiliation. If Timveous could be welcomed in ZANU PF considering that she was a critic of that party, then others could be welcomed too,” said the insider.

Reports circulating on various social media sites insinuate that senior  MDC Alliance members such as Memory Mbondiya, Juliana Nonoza, Tracy Mutinhiri, Kudakwashe Bhasikiti and Johanna Mcows have approached ZANU PF leadership seeking to be admitted into the party.

Last week, Timveous told the District Coordinating Committee (DCC) leadership in Zvishavane that she had joined ZANU PF so that she could contribute to the development of the country.

She hinted that more MDC Alliance members will soon join the ruling party as they have become more frustrated by Chamisa’s lack of political direction.
