Government has completed the first phase of upgrading and modernising the Beitbridge Border Post, a move that will ensure efficiency and the ease of doing business as time spent at the border will be significantly reduced.

The Deputy Minister of Transport and Infrastructural Development, Mike Madiro is on record saying the improved Beitbridge Border Post will increase efficiency, and encourage regional trade.

“Government is putting up a world class one stop shop facility, which will not only improve the ease of doing business, but facilitate regional trade,” said Minister Madiro.

Speaking through his official Twitter handle, Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Information, Publicity and Broadcasting Services, Nick Mangwana advised that all Government officials and agents should be moved and settled at the new premises by 6 October 2021.

“The upgrading and modernisation of Beitbridge Border Post is on course.  Phase 1 of the project which involves construction of new terminals for human and vehicle traffic as well as construction of the new composite offices for all border agencies is now complete.

“All border agencies such as ZIMRA, ZINARA and ZRP will be housed under one roof and all payments are going to be processed at a single window in order to facilitate effective border management and promote the Ease of Doing Business at the country’s busiest port of entry and exit,” Mangwana said.

Meanwhile, Government is proceeding to Phase 2 of the modernisation and upgrading program, which will include the building of terminals for buses and private vehicles as well as construction of 220 staff houses and a water reservoir.
