The High Court of Zimbabwe Sheriff, Macduff Madega was arrested yesterday for fraud as the war against graft intensifies.

In a statement yesterday, the Zimbabwe Anti-Corruption Commission (ZACC) said that investigations were continuing into several other allegations levelled against Madega.

“The Zimbabwe Anti-Corruption Commission has arrested the Sheriff of the High Court of Zimbabwe Macduff Madega. Madega will appear in court on Thursday 9 June 2022.  It is alleged that Madega was instructed to auction a stand by a judgement creditor in fulfilment of a judgement debt. Madega attached and auctioned the property to the highest bidder. It is, however, alleged that before confirming the sale of the property, Madega received an objection which he presided over resulting in him not confirming the sale.

“However, after allowing the objection to stand, Madega is alleged to have put the same property for sale by private treaty and did not disclose to the buyer about the previous objection,” said ZACC.

The arrest of Madega was described by political analysts as a sign of commitment by the New Dispensation to fight the vice of corruption.

Political commentator, Terrence Chipwanya said that the New Dispensation was serious about fighting the graft as evidenced by the arrests of high profile people.

“The New Dispensation is serious about fighting corruption. The arrest of high profile people is a testimony that this Government does not tolerate corruption. This should be a warning to everyone who is involved in corrupt activities to repent or risk being incarcerated for the crime,” said Chipwanya.

Meanwhile, former Cabinet Minister Petronnela Kagonye was yesterday convicted of stealing 20 laptops that were meant to benefit schools in Goromonzi South constituency. She was remanded in custody waiting for sentencing today.

Last month, Mbire legislator Douglas Karoro was arrested for misappropriating inputs meant for farmers. He is out on bail but was eventually dismissed from the position of Deputy Minister for exhibiting behaviour not suitable for a Government Minister.
