Chamisa tightens noose for CCC aspiring candidates

Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC) leader, Nelson Chamisa has set stringent conditions for that party’s members who aspire to be legislators.

A source who spoke to this publication said that Chamisa was not making it easy for those who want to represent CCC in the forthcoming harmonised elections as he has demanded that each aspiring candidate should mobilise at least 4000 people to register to vote.

“The president (Chamisa) has demanded that every aspiring Member of Parliament should mobilise at least 4000 people to register to vote during this current registration blitz. Chamisa is of the view that members who have proved that they have a following should be allowed to represent CCC in the forthcoming elections,” said the source.

The same source said that CCC secretary to the organising department, Farai Chinobva was tasked by Chamisa to inform sitting and aspiring legislators to use their resources to ferry members to voter registration centres.

The source added that members who had shown great mobilisation skills and had financial resources would be allowed to contest on behalf of CCC.

According to the source, Chamisa was also demanding that members who have shown unquestionable loyalty to him should represent that party in this year’s elections.

The source added that Chamisa had demanded that both sitting and aspiring legislators should start availing financial resources to that party’s mobilisation programmes for them to be considered for parliamentary slots.

The source claimed that every financial donation by the sitting and aspiring legislators would be recorded by that party’s organising department and those who would have contributed more would be prioritised to represent CCC in the coming plebiscite.

Chamisa is said to have also demanded that current CCC legislators should donate some of their fuel coupons they received from parliament to support that party’s programmes.

Meanwhile, there are reports that CCC will not hold primary elections to choose candidates to represent it in the forthcoming elections as Chamisa will literally handpick his preferred candidates after hoodwinking his supporters to participate in what he calls the community consensus selection, which ultimately leaves him with the final say on selected candidates.
