Cowdray Park Road Rehabilitation and Construction has commenced today, courtesy of the aspiring Zanu PF MP for the Bulawayo’s Cowdray Park constituency, Professor Mthuli Ncube.

A Cowdray Park resident, Constantine Mahlaba confirmed that the massive road rehabilitation had begun in the area, with equipment already in place to facilitate the smooth flow of the project as promised by the aspiring MP, Hon Mthuli Ncube.

“We did not take it seriously when the aspiring MP, Prof Mthuli Ncube assured us during the Zanu-PF Primary Elections that he would spearhead the Cowdray Park road rehabilitation and construction a few weeks after, but to our amusement we saw equipment and constructors already at work by 10am today,” said Mahlaba.

The major roads to be constructed and tarred are the stretch from the Caravan area to Esgodweni and there is also going to be a construction of a flat rail crossing bridge that will connect Cowdray Park to the Western suburbs of Bulawayo via Gwabalanda-Luveve.

Mrs Mahlaba also said, “This project has seen a creation of jobs for the youths in the area as they were given first priority for general labour, and we are more than grateful for the opportunity as parents, because this move will keep them busy and away from drugs and illicit alcohol.”

Cowdray Park suburb has over 75 000 residents. It is the second largest suburb in the country after Budiriro in Harare. Despite its rapid growth, Cowdray Park lags behind in terms of development. Sections of the suburb have a poor road network and some houses are yet to be connected to the sewer system, while others are yet to be electrified.

The road construction intervention will cut the cost of transport for Cowdray Park residents and improve movement for transporters and motorists.

Prof Mthuli Ncube also recently launched a sporting tournament that covered all netball and social soccer teams in Cowdray Park in order to support youth’s talents, in the hope that one day they will be transformed into national and international players.
