CCC aspiring female candidates threaten to withdraw

Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC) aspiring female candidates are reportedly not happy with that party’s candidate selection process as they accuse it of being gender insensitive.

A source who spoke to this publication said that CCC female candidates were complaining that the candidate selection process favoured male candidates.

The source revealed that Marondera Central CCC aspiring female candidate, Loice Gwangwara was now threatening to withdraw from the ongoing candidate selection process accusing that party of only paying lip service to women emancipation and equal participation.

“Some female aspiring candidates are now threatening to withdraw from the selection process as they accuse the party of frustrating female participation in politics. Loice Gwangwara, an aspiring candidate for Marondera Central is now threatening to withdraw from the race citing the party’s unfair treatment of female candidates. Gwangwara is accusing the party’s leadership of only using women to settle political goals but do little to nothing toward their upliftment politically,” said the source.

The same source said that Gwangwara felt that women in CCC were only used as sexual tools or cheerleaders to their male counterparts.

According to the source, it was not only Gwangwara who had complained against that party’s unfair treatment of female candidates, but other aspiring CCC female legislators were accusing that party of paying a lip service to women emancipation and equal participation in political and decision-making processes.

The same source revealed that Gwangwara was afraid that she would find herself in the political dustbin like Joanna Mamombe who had fallen out of favour with Nelson Chamisa and has allegedly not been recommended to represent Harare West constituency in this year’s plebiscite.

According to the source, the only female members respected in CCC are the ones closer to Nelson Chamisa, the likes of Fadzayi Mahere and Ireen Kademaunga.

Meanwhile, Chamisa is being accused of interfering with the candidate selection process in a bid to impose his allies and relegate his rivals to the peripheries of that party’s political affairs.
