Hwende accused of being an absent MP

The on-going Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC) candidate selection process has triggered massive infighting within that party as Kuwadzana East aspiring candidates are reportedly mudslinging each other.

A source who spoke to this publication said that CCC Kuwadzana East incumbent Member of Parliament (MP), Charlton Hwende was being accused by his rivals of neglecting the constituency to concentrate on his businesses in Namibia.

According to the source, Hwende is being challenged by sitting Harare Ward 37 councillor, Jason Kautsa and Givisoti Mandere. Ironically, Kautsa and Mandere formed a pact to fight Hwende.

“Hwende’s political career is hanging by a thread as his rivals in Kuwadzana East are accusing him of neglecting the constituency to focus on his personal businesses in Namibia. Kautsa and Mandere are telling people that they should not vote for Hwende because he is a missing person in the constituency and not a Member of Parliament,” said the source.

The same source added that Hwende was again being accused of abusing the Constituency Development Fund (CDF) and failing to conduct periodic constituency development meetings.

“Hwende is also being accused by Kautsa and Mandere of abusing the CDF and failing to conduct periodic constituency development meetings. According to Kautsa and Mandere, Hwende has nothing new to offer to the people of Kuwadzana East as he has failed to bring meaningful development to the constituency. They are saying that Hwende should abandon politics and concentrate on his businesses in Namibia,” added the source.

The source said that Hwende was also being accused of supporting the candidature of one Richard Pamire in Ward 37 despite him not being a resident of that Ward.

Meanwhile, another source said that Hwende had vowed to resist any machinations by Kautsa and Mandere to discredit him and has teamed up with Pamire to fight back. The two are reportedly holding impromptu meetings telling Kuwadzana East residents that Kautsa and Mandere were ZANU PF sympathisers who were planted into that party to destabilise it.
