Candidate imposition triggers demonstrations

The imposition of candidates by Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC) leader, Nelson Chamisa has set a spate of demonstrations across the country.

A source confided in this publication that CCC structures across the country had billed massive demonstrations to protest against candidate imposition. CCC finalized its candidate nomination process recently which was characterized by candidate imposition that is threatening to tear that party assunder.

The nomination process saw that party`s heavy weights falling apart. Of note is CCC interim deputy leader, Tendai Biti who was elbowed out of Harare East constituency in favour of Allan Markham. To set the demonstrations in motion was Southerton constituency which besieged that party`s Head Quarters in Belvedere protesting against the imposition of Bridget Nyandoro ahead of the popular candidate only identified as Mai Madzingaidzo.

“Southerton constituency has lit the fire that is set to burn the opposition house. On Tuesday (27 June 2023), disgruntled CCC members loaded in a bus and lorry descended on CCC office in Belvedere protesting over the imposition of Nyandoro. That woman is unpopular in the constituency. Vanhu vari kuda Mai Madzingaidzo,” said the source.

The source went on to say that the people sang derogatory songs and were freely declaring that CCC had lost the Southerton seat. According to the source, the protestors had placards inscribed the following statements: ‘Matoruza seat iroro’ ‘Ngavapinde havo mai Madzingaidzo’ ‘No to imposition of girlfriends’ ‘Let’s practise what we preach-no imposition’ ‘Democrats without democracy kill and destroy the citizen`s movement.

The source claimed without giving details that Nyandoro was a girlfriend to one CCC big wig. An insider confirmed that demonstrations across the country have been planned. However, he said that party leadership was on top of the situation.

“We know that ZANU PF has infiltrated us through FAZ and those demonstrations are engineered by same. ZANU PF is in panic mode since its defeat is imminent, so they are trying by all means to cause chaos within the citizens’ movement.

“We are going to fire all the members involved who will take part in these sponsored demonstrations. That Mai Madzingaidzo must consider herself expelled,” fumed the insider.

Meanwhile, another insider revealed that CCC Mashonaland Central province scheduled its demonstrations for 8 July 2023 when that party would be launching its campaign. Masvingo province’s demonstration is penciled for 12 July 2023 and Mashonaland West province will be on 14 July 2023. Bulawayo had scheduled its demonstrations for yesterday (29 June 2023) but they postponed it to a later date which they would soon announce.

Efforts to reach CCC spokesperson Fadzayi Mahere were fruitless as her phone went unanswered.
