President Emmerson Mnangagwa has said that Government is committed to ensuring that roads in Matabeleland South are navigable in the short-term.

Speaking at the Presidential Rally at Nyele primary school, Bulilima district, Matabeleland South yesterday, the President said the road network linking Plumtree, Tsholotsho and Lupane will be tarred sooner rather than later.

“I am very proud of Matabeleland South because they are proud of their party. Right now, there are companies that are fixing the roads. Some are roads from Beitbridge to Harare. We must also give them a plan to revamp roads from Plumtree to Tsholotsho and Lupane. We will make sure we do just that,” said President Mnangagwa.

The President stated that ZWL 16 billion had been disbursed to Matabeleland South in 2020 by the central Government under the Devolution programme to cater for the needs of small communities which includes the refurbishment of roads.

Meanwhile, President Mnangagwa has urged the youths to embrace science and technology skills highlighting that Matabeleland South province would soon have a poly technical college that would offer such.

“Every country is built on the basis of science and technology and this is why all our universities have a bias towards science and technology and this is why when your Chairman Mangaliso Ndlovu came to me and said mdara sifuna i-technical college hanti isikhona khonapa we are now building poly technical colleges so as to teach people skills like how to build a house, how to do metal fabrication, carpentry, electro-engineering, Information and Communication Technology. These are skills that are needed for our country,” said the President.

The Second Republic has embarked on a number of developmental programmes that are meant to uplift everyone including those who were marginalized. This is in line with the Government mantra of leaving no one and no place behind in its journey to attain an upper middle income economy by the year 2030.
