President Mnangagwa commends Prospect Lithium Zimbabwe

President Emmerson Mnangagwa has commended Prospect Lithium Zimbabwe (PLZ) for their contribution to the local economy and society following their investment in same.

Speaking at the commissioning of the US$300 million Prospect Lithium Zimbabwe Spodumene, Petalite and Tantalum Processing Plant today in Goromonzi, President Mnangagwa applauded PLZ for implementing corporate social responsibility through building classrooms for the schools and accommodation for teachers in the surrounding area. He also commended them for the job creation and a number of empowerment opportunities for the people.

“It is also commendable that you have lived up to the promises you made at the inception of this investment to create employment and empowerment opportunities for our people. The current employment levels of over 3000, including contractors has improved the quality of life, livelihoods and incomes for our people.

“The community health and educational programmes, capacity building and skills transfer, sustainable environment management, infrastructure development, sport development as well as humanitarian assistance implemented under Corporate Social Responsibility projects, will undoubtedly leave a lasting legacy in the communities affected by this mining entity. The construction of classroom blocks and staff accommodation along with other initiatives at Vuta Primary School is equally appreciated,” said President Mnangagwa.

President Mnangagwa has pleaded with PLZ to support the surrounding schools to increase capacity of the learners  in the fields of science, technology and innovation and also to equip learners to be able to play their part in the industrialization and modernization agenda of the country.

Furthermore, President Mnangagwa has pronounced that the rehabilitation of Goromonzi-Mutare road, widening of Goromonzi-Acardia Road and construction of  a police base, among other infrastructure projects, dovetails with Government`s ongoing infrastructure agenda and that the completed and ongoing initiatives  are reflective of the intricate nexus between business and host communities.

Meanwhile, President Mnangagwa has challenged PLZ to also prioritize borehole drilling for surrounding communities to enable the people to undertake income generating gardens and horticulture projects.
