Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC) hooligans yesterday attacked the ZANU PF candidate for Bikita South, Energy Mutodi, and destroyed a number of vehicles.

A source who spoke to this publication said that a group of CCC supporters who were gathered at the Baradzanwa Business Centre in Bikita attacked Mutodi’s convoy and destroyed three cars.

"Some CCC hooligans who were waiting for Nelson Chamisa at Baradzanwa Business Centre attacked Mutodi and destroyed some cars. Mutodi and his convoy were passing through the Business Centre when some CCC members started shouting obscenities at him and rushed to his convoy, pelting it with stones. Mutodi escaped, but some cars were damaged during the melee," said the source.

Mutodi confirmed the attack on his Twitter handle and said that he had undisputable evidence to implicate the CCC hoodlums who attacked his convoy.

"Some CCC hooligans waiting for their leader Nelson Chamisa at Baradzanwa Shops in Bikita South today (yesterday) stoned three cars on my convoy. They quickly went on social media to mislead their handlers, but unfortunately, we have indisputable evidence against them," said Mutodi.

Recently, a CCC member in Umguza, Benzis Ndlovu, attacked and injured Umguza Ward 9 ZANU PF District Chairperson, Aaron Ngwenya and his two sons.

Ngwenya and his sons were reportedly attacked for urging people in their Ward not to join opposition politics as it was detrimental to the country’s development.

Meanwhile, President Emmerson Mnangagwa has repeatedly called for peace and non-violence in the run-up to Zimbabwe's upcoming elections. In a recent speech in Goromonzi, the President urged Zimbabweans to shun violence and embrace peace. He also warned that those who incited or committed violence would be brought to justice.

President Mnangagwa’s calls for peace are in line with his campaign promises to create a more democratic and just Zimbabwe. His commitment to peace and non-violence is essential to ensuring that the upcoming elections are credible and peaceful.
