President commends Khaya cement limited

President Emmerson Mnangagwa has applauded the New Vertical Mill Plant at Khaya Cement Limited for injecting about US$14 million towards the operationalisation of the plant.

Speaking at the commissioning of the New Vertical Mill plant today, President Mnangagwa said that he commended Khaya Cement Limited for their commitment in ensuring sustainable exploitation of the limestone rock.

“The show of confidence, by Khaya Cement in our economy is welcome. I commend the consortium for injecting about US$14 million to operationalise the plant. Your commitment to ensure sustainable exploitation, beneficiation, and value addition of the milestone rock is in sync with my Government`s exhortations,” said President Mnangagwa.

President Mnangagwa further said that, this was augmented by the adoption of new technologies for increasing production efficiencies, with the potential to raise the company`s cement production capacity from 350 000 to 1 million tonnes per annum, against an average national demand of 1.4 million tonnes.

He stated that the plant would result in low production costs, while making cement and other related products affordable to the final consumer.

President Mnangagwa challenged Khayah Cement Limited to broaden the production strategies so as to meet the marketing and sales mix for a broader footprint on the local, regional and international markets. He added that Khaya Cement Ltd was part of the realization of vision 2030.

“As a company involved in cement and limestone production and related products, you are a strategic cog in the ultimate realization of Vision 2030.Your cross-cutting nature and importance in the overall growth and modernization of our country should not be taken lightly,” illustrated the President.

The commissioning of this new Vertical Mill Plant shows the commitment by Khayah Cement Limited of being part and parcel of developmental projects of the administration of President Mnangagwa, as the nation journeys towards a prosperous and empowered upper middle-income society by 2030.
