CCC desperate

…as it lobbies for election nullification

Citizen Coalition for Change (CCC) Spokesperson, Fadzai Mahere was heard vowing that her party had secured the support of prominent regional and international individuals and organisations, to push the narrative meant to discredit the elections after the realisation that that

party is heading for defeat in the 23 August 2023 election, the Harare Post can report.

According to a source within the CCC party, there are claims that the CCC party had secured former Liberian President, Ellen Sirleaf Johnson to ensure she condemns the election if that party loses.

“President Chamisa and his close lieutenants within our party are now aware that the party has already lost the election to Zanu PF.  So basically what they are doing it to try and discredit the results.

“The plan is to enlist credible individuals such as former President Sirleaf Johnson from Liberia, former South African First lady Graca Machel and organisations such as the European Union and the Carter Centre, to back their plan of delegitimising the election, with the hope of settling for a Government of National Unity (GNU),” said the source.

Political analyst, Terrence Chipwanya rubbished CCC attempts to discredit the election, as childish and immature and that the country was open to more observers than ever before, who would make an objective assessment of the election.

“Regional, continental, international bodies, countries and embassies as well as other organisations are in Zimbabwe, to assess the pre, during and post-election atmosphere, so that they give a credible and honest account of the political field during the election period.

“Lobbying for the delegitimisation of an election will not be successful, as it is evident on the ground the respect that President Emmerson Mnangagwa commands through the huge crowds that are gracing his Star rallies as compared to CCC leader, Nelson Chamisa’s meagre numbers,” said Chipwanya.

Meanwhile, efforts by CCC to make enlist other reputable individuals for their cause have hit a brick wall as these were said to have indicated that they needed to be fair and truthful in their reports about the Zimbabwean election. It is becoming a mammoth task for the CCC to convince the world that the 23 August Harmonised General Elections were not free and fair.
