Government has reaffirmed its position to promote and support the Music and Arts industry in Zimbabwe citing that it can contribute to the country’s GDP, Harare post reports.

The voting platform for the National Arts Merit Awards (Nama) People’s Choice has been opened and will run until the awards night on March 22, 2019.

South Africa's Soweto Gospel Choir has won the Best World Music Album at the Grammys award ceremony in Los Angeles in the US.

It was the group's third win on its fifth nomination in the same category.

The award winning album Freedom was recorded in June 2018 as part of the group's tribute to the 100 Years of Mandela celebrations.

Nelson Mandela, the anti-apartheid campaigner who became South Africa's first black president, died in 2013 aged 95, last year's event marked what would have been his 100th birthday.

The Soweto Gospel Choir winning album features a selection of South African struggle songs including what Channel24 describes as a "scintillating" version of Johnny Clegg's Asimbonanga.

 South Africa's President Cyril Ramaphosa tweeted his congratulations to the group:

The passing away of music legend, Oliver Mtukudzi has sent social media pages into overdrive with eminent persons expressing their love for the man both in his life days and in death.

Dalom music legend, Dan Tshanda’s death has shocked artistes and people in Bulawayo as his music was engrained in the city’s social fabric.

At the height of his addiction to BronCleer, Kuzivakwashe Mhlanqa drank four bottles of the cough syrup a day, and even stole money from his mum to feed his habit. Eventually, the 19-year-old moved out of the family home in Zimbabwe's capital, Harare, and started living on the streets.
