Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Trade, Retired Lieutenant General Sibusiso Moyo has stated that his ministry believes in openness, hence the opening of a social media platform to embrace modern and effective ways of communication.

On the Ministry of Foreign Affairs twitter handle, Minister Moyo said, “As Zimbabwe`s minister of Foreign Affairs and International Trade, we believe in openness and transparency which is true to the new dispensation mantra ‘Zimbabwe is open for business.’ We believe that image of our beloved country can only be enhanced through its citizens’ participation in national discourse and projects.

“To every Zimbabwean across the globe including our ambassadors based abroad, communication is key. Let me bring to your collective attention that as a ministry, we are making all efforts to embrace modern and effective ways of communication and by this message be advised that we have opened social media platforms in pursuit of this endeavour. Feel free to tweet your views, suggestions, proposals and comments for attention,” he said.

Social media in Zimbabwe has changed human behaviour as it reshapes all structures, family, business, society, and governance.

However, some civic organisations and MDC party members have been abusing social media by spreading lies and mobilising people to protest against the Government. This led the Government to temporarily shut down the internet following the January 2019 protest which resulted in loss of property and lives.
