Devolution funds spur development in Murehwa

Murehwa Rural District (MRDC) Councillor for Ward 16, Comrade Milton Chinake, said that they had embarked on various developmental projects after receiving part of the devolution funds from Government.

Speaking to this publication yesterday, Chinake said the devolution funds they received so far had been channelled towards the construction of a school, a clinic and rehabilitation of a road in his Ward.

“The devolution funds have come at the right time for the people of Ward 16. We have used the funds to construct a new school called Gukwe primary school. This school is important because children were travelling long distances going to other schools like St Claire’s and Kambarami, which are almost seven (7) to ten (10) kilometres away. The construction of the new school is also in line with President Emmerson Mnangagwa’s Vision 2030 of having a school near children,” said Councillor Chinake.

Without revealing the actual cost of the projects, Councillor Chinake said that some of the devolution funds they had received as a Ward had been used to construct Chamapango clinic, which is now near completion.

The clinic which is being built using devolution funds and Constituency Development Fund (CDF) is expected to open its doors to the public early next year and it will ease the burden for the people who were travelling long distances in search of a health facility.

Chinake went on to say that the devolution funds are also being used for road rehabilitation and they are in the process of rehabilitating Chehota-St Claire’s road, which is approximately eight (8) kilometres.

“We are also doing road rehabilitation using the devolution funds. We have started with Chehota-St Claire’s road, which is about eight (8) kilometres. Recently, I travelled along the road with an engineer from Murehwa RDC to assess the roads and we both agreed that the road needs urgent attention. This road has become inaccessible as it was extremely damaged by rain and years of over use without being maintained. We agreed to start with this road because it is vital for economic movement of goods to and from the markets,” said Chinake.

Councillor Chinake praised the people in his Ward for cooperating with him to develop the area and opined that with the calibre of the people in Murehwa, President Mnangagwa’s Vision 2030 of an Upper Middle Income Economy is achievable.
