Chamisa loses grip in Bulawayo

The MDC Alliance leader, Nelson Chamisa is fast losing grip on his followers in Bulawayo who are daringly rebelling against him with the latest cheeky behaviour manifesting in the absconding of meetings over the weekend.

Chamisa addressed a skeleton Bulawayo Provincial Assembly on Sunday after attending the burial of former chairperson of the province and senator, Agnes Mloyi.

“The President (Chamisa) castigated party legislators and councillors for absconding his meeting for fear of being recalled by the MDC T. He said the struggle called for brave men and women who can sacrifice their positions and even lives for the freedom of the people,” said a source in the embattled party.

Out of the 19 councillors in the city, source said, only two attended Chamisa’s meeting and two out of the 11 legislators attended. The source said the situation in Bulawayo was dire as 419 branches in the metropolitan province were inactive.

Chamisa is said to have lambasted legislators who are unwilling to use their parliamentary vehicles to serve the interests of the party and the people who voted for them, describing such legislators as mercenaries.

The MDC Alliance leader is reported to have said that his party councillors were corrupt and were serving their personal interests at the expense of service delivery.

Chamisa went on to reveal that the party was broke but would dedicate 2021 for fund raising activities. He said the US embassy and other erstwhile friends had promised them some money. He therefore pleaded with members not to abandon ship as there was light at the end of the tunnel.

The MDC Alliance has been hard hit by recalls and defections. In Mutare, four councillors including the city Mayor, Blessing Tandi have since crossed floor to the MDC T led by Dr Thokozani Khupe.
