Karanda bridge a life saver-citizens

Citizens across the country have described Karanda Bridge, which was recently commissioned by President Emmerson Mnangagwa as a life saver despite massive criticism from opposition elements that the bridge was too trivial to warrant the President’s visit.

The bridge, which massively reduces distance from Bindura to Mt Darwin using Rushinga road and makes it easier to access Karanda hospital, was a huge relief to citizens from all corners of the country who visit the popular Karanda Hospital to access medical attention.

Former Cabinet Minister, Fortune Chasi on his twitter handle praised President Emmerson Mnangagwa for personally attending the event, a gesture which he said meant a lot to the local people.

“This bridge makes a huge difference. I remember trying to cross this river in sand to go and see my mainini. We got stuck and had to foot, was there yesterday. The jubilation is unprecedented. President Mnangagwa did well to attend personally, locals were so happy,” he tweeted.

Alexander Rusero tweeted that, “I once went to Karanda with a critically ill sister and she entered into heart failure whilst we tried to navigate this road without a bridge. This is actually a life saver.”

Sifakubi Masuku responded that, “True it was impossible to cross that river especially during rain seasons. I come from Chesa farms. The bridge brings much needed relief.”

Keven Chitsike from Mt Darwin said, “This is done at a time when everyone including companies and Governments the world over are grappling with budgets because of COVID-19. This makes a huge difference for our Mt Darwin communities.”

As usual, the MDC-Alliance flooded the social media criticising the important structure which meant a lot not only to the locals, but the country at large as a lot of people from all over Zimbabwe visit Karanda Hospital for medical assistance.

The project was wholly funded by Treasury using internal resources.

“This is the approach my Government will continue to use going forward. I call upon beneficiary communities, to jealously protect these national assets. Allow me to take this opportunity to commend the role of various stakeholders, inclusive of the church; as essential partners for sustainable socio-economic development.

“The contribution of the Church in particular to national development and social well being of the citizenry is noted and most appreciated. I applaud the Evangelical Church for the exemplary and well renowned health care services offered at Karanda Hospital. Your role in complimenting Government in the provision of specialist health care services, human capital and skills development as well as the help to meet the spiritual needs of patients through devotion, evangelism and counselling is commended,” President Mnangagwa said during the commissioning.

The President said the Government was making progress in implementing projects in line with the SADC Regional Infrastructure Development Master Plan-Vision 2027.
