CCC courts MDC-T members ahead of 2023 plebiscite

Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC) is allegedly courting MDC-T members to represent it in the forthcoming plebiscite, the Harare Post has learnt.

This follows failure by CCC to field candidates in some constituencies across the country.

A source who spoke to this publication said that CCC was making frantic efforts to lure MDC-T Nkayi senator, Chief Ndlovu to represent it in this year’s elections in that area.

The source said that CCC organising department had been tasked by Nelson Chamisa to identify MDC-T members who might want to represent CCC in this year’s elections and Chief Ndlovu was among those targeted.

“CCC is luring MDC-T members to represent it in the forthcoming elections. The organising department has since been tasked by Chamisa to identify MDC-T members who might want to cross floor to CCC and represent that party in this year’s elections. Currently, the organising department is engaged in talks with Chief Ndlovu urging  him to dump MDC and represent CCC in that constituency during this year’s elections,” said the source.

The source added that CCC was promising MDC-T members some financial rewards if they dump their party to join Chamisa’s party.

“It’s not every MDC-T member who is being targeted. CCC is only targeting popular MDC-T members so that they represent it in this year’s elections. CCC is dangling some cash and lucrative promises to those members in a bid to lure them,” added the source.

The source added that it was ironic that CCC was dangling cash to MDC-T members when it was facing financial challenges.

“It’s ironic that CCC is luring MDC-T members with cash when its coffers are in the red. If CCC had money, it should deploy that money to its mobilisation programmes instead of luring MDC-T members with it,” added the source.

Meanwhile, this publication learnt that Chief Ndlovu was not in a position to join CCC as he accused that party of lacking political ideology, a constitution and solid party structures. Chief Ndlovu reportedly told his close allies that CCC was a sinking ship, hence he couldn’t associate with it.
