The latest spat in the Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC) following that party leader, Nelson Chamisa’s directive that all CCC candidates should mobilise resources to bus supporters to Bindura for that party’s campaign launch rally is evidence that CCC is in financial doldrums, the Harare Post can report.

A source within the CCC revealed to this publication that senior CCC member Gideon Shoko advised the CCC candidates for the 23 August Harmonised General elections to mobilise resources to bus supporters to attend the rally in Bindura.

“All party (CCC) candidates are advised to mobilise finances and bus supporters within their constituencies to attend and support the campaign launch rally to be held on 8 July 2023,” said Shoko.

The directive did not go down well with some CCC candidates who retaliated while making comparison between CCC and ZANU PF with regards election preparedness.

“Speaking on behalf of the Bulawayo party (CCC) branch we are financially crippled, some of us, I will not mention names, did not have enough money for the nomination fee, things are difficult.   The burden should be cast to every CCC member and not selectively the candidates.

“Let me remind U all that our party (CCC) failed to finance us to register with the nomination court, again it failed to avail resources for our campaigns.  Across the floor, ZANU PF candidates were well catered for by their party, from the nomination fees to the campaign resources,” said a CCC candidate who denied identification for fear of victimisation.

Another CCC member suggested that Bindura take care of the campaign launch rally, while other Provinces concentrate on Mugwazo/Umgwazo

“There is no need for party (CCC ) members to strain themselves if resources do not permit, as such each province should rather continue to maximize on Mugwazo/Umgwazo mobilisation campaigns ahead of the elections,” said the CCC member.

Last week there was pandemonium in that party after Chamisa sent his party director for elections Ian Makone to inform CCC candidates in Gweru to start self-mobilisation of financial resources for election campaign as the party’s account was in the negative.  This ignited fresh sullen among the already disgruntled members
