Government has made a notable stride towards embracing digital innovation by launching the Electronic Government Procurement system (e-GP) today at the Harare International Conference Center (HICC).

President Emmerson Mnangagwa, in his keynote address, underscored the transformative potential of the e-GP system. He stated, "This system will revolutionize our procurement landscape, expediting the supply of goods and services while promoting transparency and accountability."

The President emphasized the broader impact of the e-GP system on the performance of the public sector and service delivery. "The use of innovation, technology, and new mindsets by stakeholders will enhance public sector performance and improve service delivery, especially in under-served areas," he said.

Highlighting the critical role of an efficient and modern public procurement system, President Mnangagwa noted the system's potential for improving fiscal responsibility.

"An efficient and modern public procurement system is essential, one that increases value for money, enhances transparency and accountability, and alleviates pressure on the National Budget," he added.

The President also shared the promising projections resulting from the implementation of value for money initiatives by the Second Republic, citing savings of around 30% for the fiscal budget.

He further addressed Government initiatives towards a stronger digital foundation. "My Government is implementing policies and programmes that lay a strong digital foundation, which is key to realizing our vision for an e-enabled Government," shared the President.

Reflecting on the benefits of e-procurement as seen in other nations, the President expressed optimism about its potential in Zimbabwe.

“E-procurement brings numerous opportunities, curbs corruption, increases efficiency, and invites new players to the field," he remarked.

With the introduction of the e-GP system, the Government takes a significant step into the digital future, promising to revolutionize procurement procedures, stimulate economic growth, and improve the socio-economic conditions of the country. This launch readies Zimbabwe to fully harness the benefits of digital innovation and excel in the globalized world of the 21st century.
