Biti supporters vows to stand with him

Supporters of Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC) interim co-deputy president, Tendai Biti have vowed to resist machinations by Nelson Chamisa to demote him to a less influential position.

A source who spoke to this publication said that Chamisa was expected to announce a substantive CCC national executive which will see veterans of that party being excluded from the structure.

According to the source, Chamisa is intimidated by Biti’s towering political figure and is not comfortable having him as one of his deputies in fear of a palace revolution.

“There are reports that Chamisa wants to demote Biti in the new executive structure set to be announced anytime from now. We will not allow such humiliation of a senior member like Biti. What has Biti done to deserve such a treatment?” asked the source.

The source added that Biti was likely to be appointed CCC Harare Provincial chairperson, a position that is far less than what he substantively held in MDC Alliance.

“They are arguing that Harare Province is the bedrock of the party, hence a senior member should be the chairperson to mobilise supporters ahead of 2023 elections. So they want to appoint Biti to that position. But we know that they want to systematically demote him. They can appoint someone to the provincial chairperson position and allow Biti to continue as the party’s vice president,” added the source.

The source added that the majority of CCC members were not happy with reports that the Johnny-come-lately were tipped to occupy senior positions. This has caused pandemonium within that party as senior members are feeling neglected and side-lined by Chamisa.

The source revealed that Chamisa would replace Biti with the current party spokesperson, Fadzai Mahere who is rumoured to be the former’s girlfriend. The source added that Welshman Ncube would be replaced by Thokozani Khupe who is suspiciously viewed as a ZANU PF mole.

According to the source, it lacks logic for Chamisa to promote the likes of Fadzayi Mahere, Gift Siziba and Joanna Mamombe ahead of senior members like Biti, Charlton Hwende and Welshman Ncube.

Efforts to get a comment from CCC interim spokesperson, Fadzayi Mahere were futile as she was not answering her mobile phones.
