Netizens have said that the dismissal of Owen Ncube as the Minister of State for National Security should be a warning to other Government Ministers that President Mnangagwa does not tolerate inappropriate behaviour.

Yesterday, President Mnangagwa relieved Ncube of his Ministerial duties through a letter signed by the Chief Secretary to the President and Cabinet, Dr Misheck Sibanda.

“His Excellency the President of the Republic of Zimbabwe Cde E.D Mnangagwa, has in terms of section 340, subsection (1), paragraph (f), as read with section 104, subsection (1) of the Constitution of Zimbabwe removed Owen Ncube from the Office of Cabinet Minister and Minister of Government with immediate effect for conduct inappropriate for a Minister of Government,” reads the letter.

Commenting on the dismissal of Ncube on Twitter, Enock Sedze said that the dismissal of Ncube was a commendable move as it showed that the President does not tolerate behaviour that tarnish the Government’s image.

“The dismissal of Ncube should be a warning to other Ministers that President Mnangagwa is a serious man who doesn’t tolerate inappropriate behaviour. Other Ministers should now diligently conduct their assigned duties knowing that if they fail to perform, they will be axed. The Ministers should learn from Ncube that the one who appoints can also disappoint if you don’t perform your tasks as expected,” said Sedze.

Another netizen who goes by the name Chief Chipuriro said that President Mnangagwa had shown the nation that he was not a friend to people of questionable behaviour.

“It was Mupfumira (Prisca), Moyo (Obadiah), Chasi (Fortune), Mutodi (Energy) and now Mudha (Owen Ncube). This shows that the President doesn’t want his administration to be tainted by people of questionable characters. Ministers and other people in positions of authority should desist from engaging in activities that are detrimental to national development as that might cost them their jobs. They should thrive to provide a servant leadership to the people as has been directed by President Mnangagwa,” said Chipuriro.

Cde Ncube, who is the Gokwe-Kana legislator, was appointed Minister of State for National Security in September 2018. Prior to his appointment as National Security Minister, Ncube was the Minister of State for Midlands Province.
