Chamisa accused of embezzling US$7 million in donor funds meant for CCC candidates

In a shocking revelation that has sent shockwaves through the political landscape, Nelson Chamisa, the leader of the Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC), stands accused of embezzling a staggering US$7 million in donor funds earmarked for supporting CCC candidates in the upcoming elections.

The alleged embezzlement sheds light on a disconcerting pattern of financial mismanagement and misuse of resources within the party's leadership.

Reports indicate that Chamisa, during his visit to the Netherlands from July 8th to 11th, 2023, was entrusted with funds specifically intended to aid CCC's candidates.

However, shocking claims now suggest that these funds were allegedly diverted for personal use, leaving CCC candidates to fend for themselves without the promised financial support.

It is alleged that Chamisa, instead of channelling the generous US$7 million donation to CCC's candidates, chose to exploit the funds for personal investments and party expenses.

This misuse of funds raises serious questions about the integrity and accountability of the leadership, especially in light of CCC's promises to uphold transparency and ethical financial practices.

Beyond the embezzlement accusations, Chamisa's purported lavish expenditures come under scrutiny.

Allegations suggest that he has invested in high-end vehicles and multiple properties across Harare. Among these acquisitions is a property conveniently located adjacent to the CIO Headquarters, further fuelling speculation about the motive behind such strategic purchases.

Compounding these allegations is the involvement of Gift Ostalos Siziba, a close associate of Chamisa and a figure regarded as his potential successor.

Similar to Chamisa's alleged behaviour, Siziba is said to have indulged in acquiring valuable assets, including top-of-the-range grey Toyota Fortuner vehicle, potentially pointing to a broader pattern of financial misconduct within the party's higher ranks.

Political analyst Edith Mushore said that  the reported embezzlement of US$7 million earmarked for CCC candidates not only exposes the ethical crisis within the party but also raises concerns about the financial future of the nation under such leadership.

With critical decisions to be made at the polls, voters face a crucial dilemma of whether to support a party grappling with allegations of embezzlement or to seek more trustworthy alternatives for effective and ethical governance.
